American Educator Named U.N. Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees

James Read, an American educator currently attached to the office of the United States High Commissioner for Germany, was today named Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees by U.N. High Commissioner G.J. van Heuven Goedhart.

Among the other members of the High Commissioner’s staff named in today’s announcement were: Gustave Kullman, formerly Deputy High Commissioner of the League of Nations Refugee Organization, chief of the Division of Protection; John Alexander of Britain, executive director for all other operations; and, Ugo Carusi, former U.S. Commissioner of Immigration, High Commissioner’s representative in the United States.
