The granting of $150,000 in cash, building material and equipment, for the establishment of a Music Center in Israel similar to that of Tanglewood in the United States was announced today by the Esco Foundation here, of which Mrs. Rose Jacobs, Hadassah leader is chairman.
The Esco Foundation, privately established by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cohen of New York, has in the past assisted other cultural and educational projects in Israel. The Music Center, which will have an auditorium seating 3,000 people, will be located at Ein Gev on the eastern shore of Lake Tiberias. Music festivals will be held there twice a year, in the spring and fall.
The center, which will be known as the Esco Music Center, will include a School for Music and other fine arts. Practice studies for music students will be built from building material provided by the Esco Foundation. as will be a modern American-furnished guest house for performing artists. The Esco Foundation is also sending cafeteria equipment for the Center.
