Dr. Israel S. Wechsler was reelected president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University at the organization’s annual meeting last night. Justice Felix Frankfurter, Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach and Mrs. Felix M. Warburg were elected honorary presidents.
The Hebrew University, according to a report by the executive vice-president, High Salpeter, has set a goal of $2,800,000 for its operations during the year 1949-50, and the American Friends will be responsible for raising $2,100,000 of that amount. Societies of Friends of the Hebrew University in Great Britain, Canada and other countries will help to raise the remainder, it was reported at the meeting.
(The new academic year of Hebrew University here, which begins Monday, will record a total enrollment of 1,300, which is 400 more than the student body last year, a cable from Jerusalem said today. Lack of space continues to be the chief problem of the University, which is now scattered in 20 buildings in Jerusalem.)
