The Jewish Book Souncil of America, sponsored by the National Jewish Wolfare Board announced today that it will make two literary awards in 1950, one to the author of a non-fiction work of general Jewish interest and literary merit, and the other to the author of a work of fiction of Jewish interest, sither a novel or a collection of short stories.
The non-fiction award of $500 will be known as the “Isadore Hershfield Award,” in memory of the late Isadore Hershfield, of Washington, D.C., who for two generations was actively identified with Jewish communal affairs in the nation’s capital. The fiction award of $250 was provided by Samuel H. Daroff , Phila-delphia philanthroupist and civic leader.
