A Herbert H. Lehman Human Relations Award has been established by the American Jewish Committee to honor “those individuals who have been responsible for significant and creative advances in the field improved human relations for all groups in this country and abroad,” A.M. Sonnabend, president of the committee, announced here today.
Mr. Lehman, Adlai E. Stevenson, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Robert S. Benjamin, National Chairman of the U.S. Committee for the United Nations, will be principal participants at the Committee’s Human Relations Award dinner. The event will be one of the high points of the American Jewish Committee’s 1963 Appeal for Human Relations, a nationwide fund-raising campaign whose goal this year is $3,767,000. The Lehman Award is in the form of a three-inch silver medallion portrait of Governor Lehman, sculptured in bas-relief.
