The American Jewish Committee delegation now touring Latin America was en route to Chile today after a week’s visit in Sao Paulo and in Rio de Janeiro.
The members of the delegation were met at the Sao Paulo airport by American and Israel consular officials, representatives of the Federation of Jewish Societies and Sao Paulo Jewish leaders. They were guests at a luncheon and later a banquet sponsored by the Jewish Federation, as well as a reception by the Israel Consul.
The AJC leaders said that when they return to the United States after their 12,000 mile good-will tour of South America, they will urge the United States Government to pay more attention to Latin America, “whose strength we consider essential to the defense of the free world.” The delegation met with leading Catholic dignitaries of Brazil.
