An appeal to President Truman to intervene promptly in the Palestine situation “to avert a major disaster” was telegraphed today by the American Jewish Conference.

In its appeal the Conference charged that martial law, which the British Government is threatening to impose upon the Jewish community in Palestine, “is a weapon to coerce the Jewish representatives participating in London and a manuever to obscure the British Government’s record of broken promises, dilatory tactics and dishonored pledges.” The appeal was singed by Henry Monsky and Louis Lipsky, leaders of the Conference.
