The executive committee for the organization of the American Jewish Conference today announced that in view of the difficulties that have arisen in many election districts in connection with the organization of election committees for the American Jewish Conference, the National Board of Elections has decided that the time for the filing of nominations by district or regional committees shall be extended to June 1, 1943.
Over one hundred Conveners have been appointed throughout the country by the National Board of Elections of the Conference, the announcement said. Their task will be to organize the provisional committees, which, in turn , will organize election committees for each community. Communities which do not have sufficiently large Jewish populations to constitute an election district have been combined into regions, and election committees for these regions will be created, the announcement declared.
The national board of elections of the Conference has informed all conveners and provisional committees that they are to be guided by the following rules in connection with the representation of local federation, philanthropic and welfare organizations: Local federations or welfare funds shall be accorded representation where the number of delegates to the Conference will not exceed five, in which case the local federation or welfare fund will be entitled to one representative at the local election conference. In communities where the number of delegates exceeds five, the federation or welfare fund is entitled to one representative at the election conference for each two sent by the district to the conference.
