Rep. Francis Walter this week-end attacked the American Jewish Congress for its opposition to his Omnibus Immigration Bill. The chairman of the House Immigration Subcommittee said that there was not a “scintilla of truth” in A.J.C. charges that his bill would “tear down precious rights of American citizens.” He asserted that the charges were part of a “propaganda drive” by A.J.C. leaders and DP Commissioner Harry Rosenfield.

The only statements of opposition to the measure, he stated, came from Dr. Israel Goldstein president of the A.J.C. and an attorney representing “refugee interests.” He linked the American Jewish Congress opposition to his plan with that of a Communist publication. (Opposition to the bill has been announced by all major American Jewish organizations.)
