Detailed plans for the $1,000,000 campaign, decided upon last night by the concluding session of the war emergency conference of the American Jewish Congress, were being napped out here today by the governing council of the Congress. Half of the fund will he used to implement the various activities involved in the defense of Jewish rights and the post-war reconstruction of Jewish life, while the other half will be assigned to the normal functions of the Congress.
A demand that the “International status of the Jewish people, established in the Covenant of Versailles, be recognised by the United Nations and that in the discussion preliminary to peace, the Jewish people be given an opportunity to participate through their accredited representatives in all natters affecting Jewish interests,” was voiced in one of the resolutions adopted last night. Coupled with this resolution was another urging that in the discussions at the peace conference equal political, economic, cultural and religious rights of Jews be accepted as a preliminary to consideration of the Jewish status in the new world.
On the question of Palestine, the delegates approved resolutions demanding the creation, of a Jewish commonwealth there after the war and the immediate creation of a Jewish military force to fight under its own flag end under the command of the United Nations. Dr. Stephen S. Wise was re-elected president Of the congress.
