The American Jewish Labor Council and the Jewish Peoples Fraternal Order, two left-wing groups, were expelled from the American Jewish Congress with which they had been affiliated, it was announced today following a closed session of the Congress administrative committee last night.
The expulsion was decided upon following charges made by the executive committee of the Congress declaring that the two groups had demonstrated their unwillingness to support the program of the A.J.C. The two groups were also charged with being “in contempt” of duly arrived at decisions of the American Jewish Congress.
Spokesmen for the Congress said that no further appeal could be made by the expelled groups unless the organization’s convention, to be held in the fall, decides to reverse the annual report of its officers and to initiate action in the case. However, the two ousted groups cannot apply for a reversal. Both groups are named on the subversive lists made public by Attorney General Tom Clark.
The administrative committee also voted that the office of president of the American Jewish Congress left vacant by the death of Dr. Stephen S. Wise would remain vacant until the next convention.
