A message of condolence was sent yesterday to the French government by the American Jewish Congress on the assassination of Foreign Minister Barthou. It stressed the great services of Mr. Barthou to the cause of good will and peace in Europe and to the establishment of the human rights of the Jews.
At a meeting of the Administrative Committee of the Congress, Professor Horace Kallen reviewed the career of the deceased French statesman. He referred to the late Foreign Minister “as a distinguished democrat and lover of peace” and declared his death “a great loss to the French Republic, to the cause of peace and good will in Europe, and to the human rights of the Jews in the family of nations in Europe.”
