Steps toward bringing about unity of action on the part of the American Jewish Congress and the American Jewish Committee, in accordance with a resolution adopted at the last session of the Congress at Atlantic City, will be taken soon, Bernard S. Deutsch, newly elected president of the Congress, announced. The American Jewish Committee will be invited to a joint conference to consider the proposal. The announcement was made following a meeting of the administrative committee of the American Jewish Congress, in which Dr. Stephen S. Wise, honorary president, participated.
The administrative committee likewise appointed a special committee to consider the advisability of taking some public action, if no other means of securing an abatement of the Soviet policy will be available, to protest against the persecution of Zionism and the Jewish religion in Soviet Russia. This step was taken in accordance with a resolution adopted at the Atlantic City session.
A sub-committee was appointed to recommend the personnel of a commission which is to conduct an investigation into the question of alleged anti-Jewish discrimination in academic and economic fields in the United States. The proposed commission is to be headed by men prominent in the academic world.
