When asked to comment on the speech made by Rabbi Stephen S. Wise in which he came out openly for the boycott of Germany, Bernard S. Deutsch, president of the American Jewish Congress, said: “The American Jewish Congress will consider the whole question of the boycott at the meeting of the administrative committee to be held on the 17th of this month and at the meeting of the national executive committee of the Congress which will take place on the 21st of the month.

“I have been in conference with Mr. Samuel Untermyer and while the subject of the boycott was thoroughly discussed, I did not commit the American Jewish Congress in any way. True I have my own personal viewpoint, but my own viewpoint is not to be confused with that of the Congress. The whole subject will be settled at the two Congress meetings.”
