American Jewish Congress Will Survey Employment Discrimination Against Jews

Among the most important problems now engaging the attention of the American Jewish Congress, it was reported at a recent administrative committee meeting, is the question of alien registration. Grave danger exists, it was pointed out. of the enactment into law of the Blease Bill for the voluntary registration of aliens. Warning of the danger of the bill’s passing, it was reported, was communicated by the American Jewish Congress to key men throughout the country.

A survey on discrimination against Jews in employment was authorized and David L. Podell named chairman of the committee which will undertake this study.

The recent official pronouncements of the Soviet authorities calling for a moderation of policy in religious persecution and collectivization were referred to as a hopeful sign, while the need for continued watchfulness for the practical application of these pledges was emphasized.

Reports on the activities of the Congress with regard to matters affecting the Jews in Poland, Roumania, Lithuania and Hungary, were rendered. A report on discrimination against Jews in the colleges was submitted and a number of proposals offered for consideration by the Administrative Committee.
