American-jewish Labor Group Welcomed at Two Meetings

Expressing his interest in the Jewish National Home not as a private Jewish enterprise but because it is important for the whole world to believe that the bridge between the East and the West will be built by Jews, R. E. Denman, pro-Zionist Labor member of the British Parliament, speaking at a public meeting here in honor of the American-Jewish labor delegation, pointed out that if that is the meaning of the Jewish National Home then “it is the most important work of our days.”

In conveying the greetings of British labor, Mr. Denman admitted that he had heard criticism of the British government but was pleased with the work of Jewish upbuilding. He told the assemblage that the British government moves slowly but when it builds it builds permanently and well.

Morris Kentridge, Labor member of the South African Parliament, now touring Palestine, began his address in Hebrew, saying “these few words convey to you my feelings,” and then continued in English. Saying that he had seen miracles in Palestine, particularly in the Emek, in Tel Aviv and at the Rutenberg works, Mr. Kentridge declared that, “Jewish achievement here is an advance in world civilization. Both workers and employers here do not care for getting more but for building the National Home. Jewish energy also betters the position of the Arabs. Despite the mistakes that have been committed the British government will carry out its pledges.”

The members of the American delegation, Abraham Shiplacoff, Morris Finestone and Isaac Hamlin, in whose honor the meeting was held, gave their enthusiastic impressions of Palestine and declared that they would devote all their forces to Palestine upon their return to America. They also warned the Revisionists against the proposal to establish separate trade unions. Yesterday the American delegation was honored at a meeting of 4,000 people in Haifa. Among the speakers were Schmarya Levin, Zionist leader, and Philip Hassun of the Arab Workers’ club.
