A campaign to raise $50,000 for the construction of a Red Mogen David hospital in the Negev, Palestine’s southern desert region, was launched here last night at a conference of the Jewish Labor Committee and the Workmen’s Circle.
Former Gov. Herbert H. Lehman, the featured speaker, declared that Palestine must be kept open to “free and untrammeled immigration” and that it would be “tragic” if at this time the “sacred rights recognized in the Palestine Mandate were repudiated” and the doors shut on Jewish immigration. He paid tribute to the pioneers of Palestine whose activities, he said, had benefitted all peoples, regardless of religion or nationality, alike. Other speakers were Ephim H. Jeshurin, president of the Workmen’s Circle, and Adolph Held, chairman of the Labor Committee.
