Plans for the extension of its vocational retraining programs to Israel and North Africa will be reviewed at the two-day national convention of the American CRT Federation opening here tomorrow. Dr. William Haber, former advisor on Jewish affairs to the U.S. command in Germany, will receive the organization’s first annual award for his aid to the ORT’s rehabilitation efforts.
Last year the CRT retrained 43,000 persons in over 1,100 courses in more than 200 schools, George Backer, president of the American ORT, said today. He also revealed that more than 75,000 graduates of ORT schools in various parts of the world are now living in Israel.
Principal speakers at the convention, which will be attended by 500 delegates from all sections of the country, include; Arthur Lourie, Israeli Consul-General in New York; Rep Jacob K. Javits, member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; and David Dubinsky, president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
