At least two American rabbis will attend a “gala celebration” planned by the Central Synagogue of Moscow to observe Rabbi Yehuda Leib Levin’s 75th birthday on Feb. 23. Rabbi Arthur Schneier of Park East Synagogue, New York, president of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation, and Rabbi Pinchas Teitz of the Jewish Education Center of Elizabeth, N.J., both Orthodox friends of Rabbi Levin, have received invitations to the event written in Hebrew by M. Michalowitz, president of the Central Synagogue. The Foundation is concerned with religious freedom in the Soviet Union and is headed by clergymen of other faiths as well as Rabbi Schneier.
