The American Sephardi Federation, which is the all-embracing organization for Sephardic Jews in the United States, has been accepted into membership by the American Association for Jewish Education. Haim Eliachar, chairman of the board of the American Sephardi Federation, and Mati Ronen, ASF executive director, both welcomed the action of the Association because they said that it would help “increase the knowledge of young American Jews of the rich cultural and religious heritage of Sephardim.”

Eliachar said that he felt much more must be done in the curriculum of Jewish schools to advance better understanding of the Sephardic way of life. Too often, he added “education on the history of Sephardim ends with the dispersion during the Spanish Inquisition, and nothing is said of the many contributions of Sephardic Jews to Jewry since the fifteenth century.”

Eliachar also said that by being accepted into membership by the Association, the American Sephardi Federation was furthering its goal to “be represented in all walks of Jewish life.” He noted that the ASF is also represented in the American Zionist Federation, the United Jewish Appeal and the American Section of the World Jewish Congress.
