A new Maccabian record was set today in the finals of the weight-lifting events of the Maccabian Games, now in their second day at Ramat Gan. Laronco Mintz, of the United States, set a new record and won first place for a gold medal in the lightweight class, with 347,5 kgs; for total press, snatch and jerk, and 135 for press.
Israel won the gold medal in the 2,000-meter single scull events; Israelis Eliyahu Avizov won first place by skimming over the Yarkon River course in 7 minutes, 21 seconds. Another Israeli, Abraham Canalon, received the gold medal for winning the free-style middleweight wrestling match, defeating Victor Verni, of Argentina, by 12 points.
The American water polo team defeated the South Africans. In the wrestling events up to 57 kgs. (125 lbs.), Drew Algase of the United States beat Nestor Katcher off of Argentina. David Pruzansky of the United States defeated Nstri of Mexico, and Phil Slabotsky of Canada and Sair of Israel reached a draw. In weight up to 63 kgs. (138 lbs.), Volensky of the United States beat Bossio of Italy.
