The Jewish Committee for Relief Abroad today reported that large numbers of Jews in Berlin have changed their minds about immigrating to Israel “where conditions are still in the pioneer stage.” The report estimates that about 5,000 Jews will remain in Berlin permanently.
The report also reveals that many Jewish applicants for U.S. visas — whose applications have been pending for three years — were recently informed that they would be transported to the United States soon. They were given short notice to settle their affairs, pack their belongings and embark. In some cases postponement has been arranged, the report says.
