The acceptance by the Jews of the recommendations of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine was urged at a mass meeting here today by Hayim Greenberg, leader of the American Zionist Laborites, who is en route to the United States from Zurich, where he attended the meeting of the Zionist Actions Committee.
“We cannot afford to wait for a better solution,” he said. He expressed the belief that two-thirds of the members of the U.N. General Assembly will support the UNSCOP report “provided there is not too much adverse pressure from Britain and the United States.”
Dr. Emanuel Neumann, president of the Zionist Organization of America, who also arrived here from Zurich, said that “a concentrated effort” is needed in connection with the session of the Assembly, which opens on Tuesday at Flushing Meadows. He emphasized that the United States Government must be asked “to define its attitude clearly” to the UNSCOP recommendations.
Referring to the Actions Committee attitude toward the UNSCOP report, the Z.C.A. president asserted that the committee neither accepted nor rejected the majority report,” but indicated a willingness to give it further study.” He also warned against “exaggerated optimism or pessimism” at this stage in the U.N.’s consideration of the issue.
