A group of important American Zionist leaders–including three former presidents of the Zionist Organization of America–today sent to the Progressive Party in Israel “fraternal greetings” and “wishes for success in the Zionist Congress elections.” The group includes Louis Lipsky, Judge Louis E. Levinthal, Robert Szold, Rudolf Sonneborn, Fred Monosson, Exra Shapiro and Morris Margulies.
“Thousands of members of the Z.O.A. of which we are active officers and members, are deeply sympathetic to your program and to your struggle to maintain a liberal position in the Zionist movement, ” the message said. ” A number of us will attend the Zionist Congress in Jerusalem and look forward to an exchange of views with your delegates in advance of the congress with a view of common action. It is our deep conviction that the welfare of the Zionist movement and of the State of Israel requires the strongest possible representation of liberal and Progressive Zionism at the forthcoming congress.”
