American Zionist leaders today mourned the death of Dr. Harry Friedenwald, one of the founders of the American Zionist movement and a personal friend and colleague of Dr. Theodor Herzl. Dr. Friedenwald, an outstanding ?eye specialist and a professor of ophthalmology and otology, died in Baltimore at the age of 85.
Dr. Friedenwald served as second president of the Zionist Federation in America prececessor of the Zionist Organization of America, from 1904 to 1912. In 1919 he served on the Zionist Commission on Palestine. Among his varied activities within the Jewish community were service as president of the Hebrew Education Society, president of the Federated Jewish Charities, member of the board of Dropsie College and member of the board of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
