An activist rabbi told U.S. State Department officials that religious leaders who promote tolerance can be “the first line in our war against terrorism.” “All faiths go through periods of ideological upheaval,” said Arthur Schneier, the president and founder of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation, who was speaking Thursday as part of the department’s Open Forum on Tolerance and Religious Freedom.
