An extraordinarily heavy turnout marked the Labor Party elections Tuesday. Four hours before the polls closed, more than 45 percent of the 260,000 eligible voters had cast their ballots for delegates to the party’s convention early next year. The intense rivalry between Labor Party chairman Shimon Peres and former Premier Yitzhak Rabin was believed responsible for the turnout. The results will be known in one or two days but will not be made public for several weeks.
