An Israeli border policeman was killed and a Palestinian seriously wounded during a shootout near the West Bank town of Hebron. The incident took place after Palestinian gunmen opened fire on an undercover border police unit that had been investigating “suspicious activity” in the area, according to the commander of Israeli forces in the West Bank. The border police prevented an attack on Israeli civilians, Maj. Gen. Yitzhak Eitan added. The slain policeman, Yehoshua Gavriel, 25, was buried in his hometown of Ashdod.
