An Israeli food manufacturer has suspended an employee who is a Jehovah’s Witness to avoid a threatened boycott by the fervently Orthodox, or haredi, community. The Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported that the employee, head of the personnel division at the Ashdod plant of the Vita company, was asked to go on leave after haredi leaders threatened to revoke the company’s kashrut certificate and call for a boycott of the firm’s products.
