An Israeli murder suspect was released in one of South Africa’s highest-profile criminal trials in years. Lior Saat, who was to go on trial Monday, was released March 2 after murder charges and other charges against him were withdrawn in the Johannesburg High Court. Saat was accused of the 1999 murder of Shai Avissar, the alleged leader of the “Israeli mafia” in Johannesburg.
