An Israeli politician criticized the Jewish Agency for Israel for bringing six elderly Iraqi Jews on aliyah. The six arrived in Israel last Friday. Colette Avital, chairwoman of the Knesset’s Immigration and Absorption Committee, said bringing over the immigrants was an act of public relations by the Jewish Agency in the wake of a sharp decline in immigration to Israel. A Jewish Agency spokesperson said it was the duty of the agency and the State of Israel to bring over Jews in distress whenever possible.
