An Italian court ruled that two girls whose mother became fervently Orthodox and moved to Israel should remain in Italy in the custody of their father, according to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. The court’s decision appeared to be based not on the mother’s religious choice, but on the fact that the woman kidnapped the girls in 1996 and disappeared with them for 18 months.
