An obscure Israeli Arab terrorist group claimed responsibility for a shooting attack in Jerusalem.
The group, calling itself “Galilee Liberator Brigades”, said in a statement sent to the Palestinian news service Ma’an on Monday that it dispatched an Israeli Arab who was shot dead after grabbing a security guard’s gun in Jerusalem’s Old City over the weekend.
Israeli security sources voiced skepticism over the claim, though it would shed light on Friday’s otherwise unexplained incident.
Relatives of the slain Israeli Arab claimed he was “murdered” by Jewish “fanatics”. This, though security camera footage released by police clearly shows him snatching the guard’s gun and wounding him in the ensuing tussle. One of the guard’s comrades is then seen giving chase and killing the assailant in a shootout.
