An Orthodox synagogue group called on British Jewish leaders to oppose a new gay-rights bill. The Jewish community has been silent on the proposed Gay and Lesbian Equality Bill, which is up for consideration in April. Late last week, the mainly Orthodox Federation of Synagogues called for Jews to stand with the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church in opposing the bill, especially in the area of adoptions, saying it would force groups to act counter to their religious beliefs.
