Knut B. Andersen, the Foreign Minister of Denmark, said today that he was convinced that both sides in the Middle East conflict sincerely desire peace. The Danish diplomat who arrived here yesterday for a one-week official visit to Israel, spoke to newsmen following a two-hour working meeting with Foreign Minister Abba Eban. Andersen met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed el-Zayyat in Cairo six weeks ago.

Eban reportedly briefed the visitor on “favorable changes” that have occurred in the Middle East since the cease-fire two years ago. He stressed Israel’s view that the best path to peace lay in an interim settlement with Egypt over the Suez Canal but stressed that Israel was always ready to negotiate an overall peace treaty.
