The hope that Great Britain would be able to check Japanese dumping which is crippling Palestine infant industries went glimmering today when it was announced on the floor of the House of Commons that protective measures could not be taken because Japanese imports are governed by an Anglo-Japanese commercial treaty to which Palestine had acceeded.
As long as this treaty is in force, Commander A.R.J. Southby declared today, no discriminatory action against Japanese products is possible. Commander Southby spoke for Colonial Minister Malcolm MacDonald and in reply to an interpellation by Sir Wilfred Sugden.
