The Anglo-Jewish Association favors the largest practicable immigration to Palestine after the war and fullest development of the country’s economic resources and is opposed to the White Paper, it was stated today by Leonard Stein, president of the Association, in making public the organization’s stand on Palestine.
Promising to secure support for “any well conceived practical proposals.” Mr. Stein Stein stressed the Association’s connection with the Jewish Colonization Association and expressed the hope that such proposals will be included in the post-war program of the ICA.
Palestine Jews, he added, should be free to develop a way of life molded by themselves and to preserve and enrich their spiritual and cultural heritage. “We cannot assent to making race or religion the criterion of citizenship,” Mr. Stein’s statement continued, “but neither, on the other hand, can we assent to an arrangement closing the door to Jewish immigrants. We disagree with the White Paper and urge its reconsideration.”
