The current issue of “The Annals,” official publication of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, just out, is devoted entirely to the general theme “Palestine—A Decade of Development.” Each issue of this publication is devoted to a topic of outstanding national or international importance.
The issue is edited by Dr. Harry Viteles, general manager, Central Bank of Cooperative Institutions in Palestine, Ltd., Jerusalem. He is a former Philadelphian and is now on a short visit to this country; and Khalil Totah, headmaster, Friends Boy School, Ram Allah, Palestine.
The past decade of Palestine development is considered from three angles—Government and Politics; Economic Problems; Education and Social Questions. These topics are considered from the Arab and Jewish viewpoint.
The Constitutional aspect of the Mandate for Palestine is reviewed by Dr. S. D. Myres, Jr., of the Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. Aouni Bey Abdul Hadi, president of the Jerusalem Bar Association and secretary to the Palestine Arab Executive, discusses the Balfour Declaration, while Jamaal Bey Husseini, honorary secretary to the Arab Executive, writes on the proposed Palestine constitution.
Local Autonomy in Palestine is discussed by Isaac Ben-Zwi, Member of the Municipal Council of Jerusalem and of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Federation of Jewish Labor, and Director of the Political Department of the Jewish Community of Palestine, while Omar Bey Salih al-Barghuthi, lawyer in Jerusalem, president of the Ram Allah Moslem-Christian Society, member of the Arab Executive Committee and of the Jerusalem Oriental Society, reviews the local self government, past and present.
Rabbi Samuel Horowitz, a graduate of the Jewish Institute of Religion, and Rabbi of Sunbury, Pa., was recently elected to the Sunbury Ministerial Association, and read a paper on: “The Ministry and World Peace.”
Rabbi Rudolph M. Rosenthal, a graduate of the Jewish Institute of Religion, class 1932, has been called to serve the Jewish congregations of New Iberia and Lafayette, Louisiana.
Leonard S. Waldman, president of the Jewish Community Center of Albany, was tendered a testimonial dinner at the Shaker Ridge Country Club, in recognition of his services.
