The Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity Award for outstanding achievement, posthumously honoring Ensign Ira Weil Jeffery who was killed in action at Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941, was presented to his father, David C. Jeffery, by James C. Hammerstein, executive secretary of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity, at a joint meeting of the B’nai B’rith Lodges of Minneapolis. Ensign Jeffery was the first Minneapolis man to lose his life in the present war.
The U.S. Navy is now building a destroyer to be named the U.S.S. Jeffery. In Minneapolis one of the B’nai B’rith lodges has been named the Ira Weil Jeffery Lodge.
