Annual ZOA Convention Opens in Cincinnati to Discuss Important Problems

Delegates from all parts of the country arrived here today to participate in the 44th annual convention of the Zionist Organization of America which opens tomorrow with a meeting of the Administrative Council of the ZOA. The convention will decide on important matters concerning the Zionist movement in America as well as the future of Palestine after the war. It will last four days.

The business sessions of the convention will be formally opened on Sunday morning by Dr. James G. Heller, chairman of the Convention Program Committee. At this session reports will be submitted by leaders of the fund-raising organizations and affiliated bodies. The Presidential address by Mr. Edmund I. Kaufmann will be delivered at the second session on Sunday afternoon, which will be held at the auditorium of the Taft Theatre. “Palestine and the World Scene” will be the topic of addresses at this session by Dr. Stephan S. Wise; Dr. Reinhold Niehuhr, outstanding scholar and professor of philosophy at the Union Theolegical Seminary; Dr. Nahum Goldmann and Mr. Louis Lipsky.

The third session on Sunday evening will be in the form of a banquet at which the guest speakers will be Governor John William Bricker of Chic; Dr. Solen Goldman; Judge Louis I. Levinthal and Robert P. Goldman, President of the Union of Hebrew Congregations; Rabbi Maunics Perlsweig, British Zionist leader; and Edmond L. Kaufmann. Oscar Berman will act as toastmaster.

The Palestine war problems will be discussed at Monday’s session. The question of the relationship between the ZOA and other Zionist bodies and fund-raising organizations in America will also be discussed Monday. The election of officers for the coming year is expected to take place Monday evening.
