Anti-Jewish demonstrations broke out in the streets here today following services held by Archbishop Josef Mindszenthy, primate of Hungary, in one of Budapest’s churches.
Crowds coming out of the church cheered the Archbishop, and then cheered two of the man recently sentenced to death as war criminals–Fereno Szalasi, the Hungarian Nazi leader, and Bela Imredy, former Prime Minister. Later the crowds shouted anti-Jewish slogans and started anti-Semitic demonstrations.
Most of the demonstrators dispersed as soon as police arrived. Several were detained.
