An anti-Semitic Russian neighbor beat up Moshe Mandelevich, the father of Yosif Mendelevich, one of the defendants in the first Leningrad trial, it was learned here today. According to the report the neighbor who had frequently expressed hostility toward Jews broke into the Mendelevich’s flat, pushed his wife aside and attacked the elderly man. Mandelevich was hospitalized and his wife was sent home after treatment. A daughter summoned police who arrested the neighbor but released him a short while later, the report said.
