GOVERNOR FRANK MURPHY OF MICHIGAN WARNED LAST NIGHT THAT ANTI-SEMITIC FORCES PLANNED TO ESTABLISH GHETTOES FOR JEWS IN THE UNITED STATES, AND CALLED UPON JEW AND CHRISTIAN TO UNITE IN SAFEGUARDING DEMOCRACY. ANTI-SEMITIC GROUPS PLAN 48 SPECIAL JEWISH CITIES, GOVERNOR MURPHY TOLD DELEGATES AND GUESTS AT THE OPENING OF A TWO-DAY FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY CONVENTION OF THE YESHIVA AND YESHIVA COLLEGE WHICH LAUNCHED A $1,000,000 DRIVE FOR THE INSTITUTION.

AFTER A “PROBATIONARY PERIOD” OF SEVENTEEN YEARS, THE MICHIGAN GOVERNOR DECLARED, IF ANTI-SEMITIC GROUPS HAD THEIR WAY, A VOTE WOULD BE TAKEN ON WHETHER TO ALLOW JEWS TO TRAVEL ABOUT THE COUNTRY. THE ANTI-SEMITES ALSO PLAN TO OUST JEWS FROM SCHOOLS AND GOVERNMENT POSITIONS, HE SAID. DEMOCRACY CANNOT BECOME A REALITY IN EVERY PHASE OF LIFE “WHILE MOVEMENTS ARE BEING PLANNED TO DRIVE JEWRY FROM THE LAND OR TO PERSECUTE THE CATHOLIC OR THE MENNONITE,” THE GOVERNOR ASSERTED, HOLDING THE FULFILLMENT OF DEMOCRACY THE COMMON GOAL OF CHRISTIAN AND JEW.

THE CONFERENCE ENDED TONIGHT WITH A DINNER AT THE HOTEL ASTOR WITH SENATOR BARKLEY, MAJORITY LEADER, SCHEDULED AS PRINCIPAL SPEAKER. SPEAKERS LAST NIGHT INCLUDED DR. BERNARD REVEL, PRESIDENT OF THE COLLEGE, LUDWIG LEWISOHN, AND RABBI IRVING MILLER, NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE CAMPAIGN.
