Alarming news with regard to anti-Jewish agitation in connection with the elections throughout Roumania are being received here from various parts of the country. The reports state that the Hakenkreuzler and certain circles of the government party are conducting a strenuous anti-Semitic agitation, creating a dangerous atmosphere.
Hakenkreuzler agitators are inducing the peasants in many villages to swear to take revenge on the Jews.
The campaign manager of the government party asked Prime Minister Averescu for assistance in stopping this agitation, the results of which might be very dangerous, he stated.
Several Jews are on the lists of the government party. The Jewish national bloc, which was formed as an opposition to the government party, could not compose its own list and will, it was learned, work for the support of the Jewish candidates.
In Bukowina, Streitmann and Wurmbrand are candidates on the government list; in Bessarabia, Gutmik, former bank director and minister in Ukrainia, Attorney Friedman and Mr. Bercowici are candidates on the government list.
