Incident Cited as Indication of Changed Atmosphere (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
The change of atmosphere in Bessarabia under the present political conditions was best demonstrated in the case of Attorney Nicalau, a member of the anti-Semitic Cuza party, who had every good intention of seeing himself elected as a representative of his party to the Roumanian parliament.
The Roumanian election law, however, requires that twenty citizens sign their names to a statement that they will support on election day the condidate, before he may be accepted by the election board as a candidate.
Although he offered 200 Lei for each signature, the anti-Semitic candidate failed to secure the number required by the law.
