THE RUMANIAN JEWISH PARTY TODAY LOST ITS CHANCE FOR PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATION THROUGH A GOVERNMENT DECISION WHILE NEGOTIATIONS WERE IN PROGRESS FOR FORMATION OF A COALITION CABINET OF PREMIER GEORG TATARESCU’S LIBERAL PARTY AND THREE ANTI-SEMITIC GROUPS.

THE GOVERNMENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION DECIDED THAT ONLY PARTIES WHICH POLLED TWO PER CENT OF THE TOTAL VOTES IN LAST MONDAY’S ELECTION COULD BE REPRESENTED IN THE NEW CHAMBER OF DEPUTIES. THE JEWISH PARTY POLLED 1.44 PER CENT. IT WAS THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT THE TWO-PER-CENT RULING MIGHT BE WAIVED SINCE NO PARTY HAD OBTAINED A MAJORITY.

THE LIBERAL PARTY, SEEKING TO RETAIN CONTROL OF THE CHAMBER, IS CONDUCTING NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE NATIONAL CHRISTIAN PARTY HEADED BY PROF. ALEXANDER CUZA AND OCTAVIUS GOGA, DR. ALEXANDER VAIDA-VOEVOD’S RUMANIAN FRONT AND NICOLAE LORGA’S NATIONAL DEMOCRATS.
