Anti-Semitic manifestations following the showing here of a film on Italian resistance to Fascism were brought to the attention of Italian Minister of the Interior Mario Scelba by Rome Chief Rabbi Elio Toaff during a call he paid on the Minister. The showing of the film, “Achtung Banditti,” was followed by neo-Fascist demonstrations here.
The Chief Rabbi told the Minister that he has been receiving telephone calls of a threatening nature. The Minister expressed concern over the resurgence of Fascism in this country and pointed out that the government was pressing for passage in Parliament of a law restricting neo-Fascist parties.
The Chief Rabbi also reported that garbage had been thrown all around a memorial to the Italian Jewish war dead of the first world war. The memorial is located beside the main synagogue in Rome.
