Soviet Ambassador Ivan Maisky yesterday branded as false Paris reports that baking of matzoth, unleavened bread eaten by Jews during Passover, had been prohibited by the Soviet authorities. Mr. Maisky issued the following statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency:
“I have now received information from Moscow on this point. The rumors which have been circulated to the effect that baking will not be allowed this year are utterly without foundation. Matzoth are being baked as usual and I can only conclude the story about prohibition has been set in motion by some anti-Soviet sources trying to arouse Jewish feelings against the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.”
