The United Jewish Appeal campaign for $200,000 in this city was in full swing today following its successful launching last night at a dinner during which upwards of $80,000 was pledged.
A graphic picture of the tragedy of German Jewry was painted last night by Dorothy Thompson, noted European correspondent and wife of Sinclair Lewis, who was the principal speaker. In her address she stressed the hopelessness and mental anguish of the Jewish children.
Heading the list of contributors was Samuel S. Fels with a donation of $15,000. Lessing J. and William Rosenwald contributed $10,000 each.
