An appeal for the abolition of the schechita prohibition in Bavaria was addressed yesterday to the Bavarian Diet by the Union of Bavarian Butchers.
The schechita prohibition, which has been in operation for two years, has placed Jewish butchers in a catastrophic position and has also heavily affected the farmers, says the appeal.
Formerly 60,000 cattle annually were required to satisfy the needs of the Jewish population. Today this number has been reduced to 270, according to the Union.
The Kehiloth of Bavaria purchase their meat outside of Bavaria and the Kosher Sausage industry developed chiefly for export purposes, has been transferred elsewhere, states the complaint memorandum.
